IPL 8: Chennai's old war horse Ashish Nehra steals the show against Bangalore

IPL 8: Chennai's old war hAshish Nehra turns 36 next week. On the pitch with him during the Royal Challengers Bangalore vs Chennai Super Kings IPL game was the tournament's youngest player ever — the 17-year-old Sarfaraz Khan.

It was Nehra - the oldest player among the 22 playing - who stole the show.
Nehra last played for India in the World Cup semi-final in 2011. Since then his career has had more downs than ups, mostly because of injuries. So far this season, he is showing news of his career demise have been greatly exaggerated.

Against RCB, Nehra took 4 for 10 from four overs in two spells. It was a wonderful exhibition of what experience can buy you in one of the toughest tournaments for bowlers.

"He backs himself, which is good for a fast bowler,” Dhoni said about Nehra after CSK's beat Delhi Daredevils a few weeks ago. “It is good to see him the way he bowls. He has kept himself fit. He is one Indian pacer who bowls pace effortlessly,"

Nehra had taken 3 for 25 in that match. He improved that against RCB, received his third Man-of-the-Match award in five games, and also tops the bowlers' charts with 10 wickets at an average of 12.10 and a strike rate of 12.

He hasn’t dismiss nobodies either. From the highly-rated Shreyas Iyer to big-hitter Corey Anderson and India's Test skipper Virat Kohli, Nehra has got important breakthroughs at the right moments for CSK..

Against RCB last night, Nehra dismissed both the openers. The ball he bowled to Rilee Rossouw cut in sharply to smash the stumps through bat and pad. He came back to dismisss Virat Kohli just after Kohli had reached his fifty. Nehra then completed his haul by sending back Harshal Patel for a duck.

The moment of the match though, was Nehra giving a flying kiss send-off to Rossouw who had just started hitting the ball well before getting dismissed.orse Ashish Nehra steals the show against Bangalore
